Encouraging Hearts and Home 09.16.2021

Sauce from Garden Tomatoes, Simple Crochet Face Scrubbies, Repurpose an Expandable Rack into a Shelf, and Menu Planning Fall 2021 are this week's featured posts!

Hello and Welcome!

We are busy around here getting our tall raised garden bed completed before winter rain and snow sets in, yes I do know we are running a bit late, she said with a chuckle! We knew we would not get a garden planted this year as the raised beds did not come about as quickly as we had hoped, (I may have already mentioned this previously...) but the dairy compost we purchased to fill the beds also needed to be off the ground, and a raised bed seemed to be the best place to put it.

The shorter bed will be easy, three layers of cardboard in the bottom and fill with more of the dairy compost, that I am sure we will need more of. I do have a jagged rock barrier around the chicken coop and run, there will be no visits from egg thieves this winter to upset the girls. And speaking of our flock, we did divide the two groups by giving the older and larger girls to some folks in the neighboring town. They will spend 30 days getting the three ladies integrated with their flock.

The three ladies were stronger (and meaner!) than our original 10 who had become flighty and did not want to settle in the coop at night. They are now settling down and caring for them has become enjoyable once again. We have had some brooding issues, but for the most part having chickens is so much fun, more than I ever thought it could be!

And now, it's time for this week's Encouraging Hearts & Home Blog Hop!
