Like every family out there, we have a lot going on! In our case it is family and homesteading. With a garden, tending to the chickens and of course the land. Add in learning about our new home state of Texas, and exploring all that we can when we have open time. Hello Dear Reader....
Hello Dear Reader!
It doesn't happen often, but currently we are not at home. The entire family made the decision to get away on a last minute vacay! Our last time off the property was two years ago, so it really was time. I have gone ahead and prepared a few ideas and recipes for you to visit. Along with a bit of about me thrown in for good measure! For instance...

Some of Our Favorite Food and Kitchen Tips!
May is a tough month in Texas...the weather is still deciding how it wants to behave while changing from day to day. First it is hot, then cold, then wet, then dry and time to get out the watering hoses for the garden. And while we are currently eating fresh cucumbers and zucchini from the garden, there has not been much time spent on recipe development. But what we have been doing....

Have you heard about 30+ each week? So, how much variety do you eat?
One of the easiest ways to take care of your gut, your microbiome and your heath is by monitoring what you eat in a 30 day period. And by monitoring, I really mean eat a wide variety of food choices. Have you heard about 30+ choices per week? Neither had I, until searching for ways to eat, for better nutrition. It turns out the folks that consistently eat a variety of food sources, are the healthiest...

My Love for Laurie Colwin books....
This will NOT be my usual Monday morning post. There will not be a recipe or a quick antidote about how I came to find/enjoy/learn about the recipe being shared. Why? Because I lost a few books in the great broken pipe flood of 2022 in Wyoming. And one of the replacements is quite special. Come and read the rest of the story...

Anne's Perfect Piebook.
From time to time, one must dust, discuss, and donate when too many books are in the house. And that was my job today. But I could not help but, take this one home, especially when I opened the pages...which contained the promise of a bit about the previous owner.

For Pete's Sake, why did that recipe fail?
Does it happen to me? A failed recipe? Oh heavens yes! And some weeks as a home cook, recipe developer and content creator, it will affect not only our meals, but the blog as well. Which was the reason for this topic today, failed recipes and what might have been the cause. Because no one is exempt...

Our Homestead Garden, from the DIY Homemade Household side of life.
I think this move to East Texas is at least my 35th move! As a child we moved frequently, often once a year. It was rare to go to the same school two years in a row...and while I would have never thought, that sitting here just shy of 7 decades traveling around the sun, I would be starting from scratch in a new state. And yet, here we are...

Hello Dear Reader!
If you have been visiting here for long you know we spent the winter in Arizona and then traveled into Texas after the winter damage caused significant flooding and structural damage to our home. And it turns out that the Piney Woods of Texas began calling out softly (at first) to us. With supply chain issues we were in East Texas much longer than we had actually lived in our home in Wyoming...

The Sea Serpent, at Galleta Meadows Estate Borrego Springs CA
In our travels this 2022/2023 season: We have been wanting to visit the incredible metal sculptures in the Borrego Springs area, for some time now. As it turned out we were unprepared for seeing them all on our short journey for the day. This incredible display takes a couple of days and is worth going back to do a bit of camping to see more of this art experience! But for now, come and take a look...
