Welcome to my Wyoming Kitchen. And a little bit about our journey to our new home!

We got moved, mostly. And our belongings are here, mostly. And we are getting settled, well mostly! But we are happy to be here and it was quite a journey, come and learn what took place along the way!

Moving into a smaller house is hard work. You are hesitant to downsize concerned you will get rid of what you need the most! We did that when we moved to Montana. But this time around it was the kid's turn to small down! While our space doubled in our little shared duplex, their space was reduced almost by half...

We loaded up two 26-foot moving trucks and the remainder of what had to come with us, was loaded into the cars being towed, and bed of Big Blue our Chevy truck. And yes, we filled our little 5thwheel as well...When it all went in, we were quite proud of our packing skills, but little did we know what was going to happen along the way.

When we were crossing the Continental Divide, Big Blue blew a head gasket. And just like that on the top of the divide, we needed to get a tow truck and have our rig towed into the nearest town. Which turned out to be Butte Montana. With deadlines to meet for paperwork, hubby stayed with the broken-down rig, while the rest of us continued on to Wyoming. Hubby had a couple of days reading and getting the repairs arranged for, but he had to be picked up and ready for paperwork to finish our purchase here in Wyoming.

So our Son-in-Law took off on Sunday afternoon traveling from our new home in Wyoming to Butte Mt. As soon as he got to Butte, they turned around and began the journey back to Wyoming. And while no one could have predicted, on the way back home, the rear driver's tire blew! They managed to keep the car on the road, but were shortly to discover that while there was a spare tire, there was no jack!

So far this whole journey had been blessed because while we had troubles along the way, no one was injured. And there was one more blessing to come our way. About three minutes after the discovery of the missing jack, a Montana Game Warden pulled up behind them and assisted in getting them back on the road. It took a few more hours to get home, but we all were present and accounted for paperwork signatures the next day! However, we do still have a truck and an RV full of household goods that need to be picked up as soon as the truck is repaired.

But I do have a working kitchen and hope to be back to blogging soon! There are a few important pieces of kitchenware and some pantry ingredients in the truck and RV, and it will be nice to have them all together in one place! In the mean while we have a few basics we need to fill the freezer with, and I will be cooking a lot of different foods to share because with a kitchen like mine, there is no reason not to cook! Come and take a look...

This time around my kitchen has a dishwasher! You can see my collection of tiny hinged boxes on the black shelves above the sink.

Lots of countertop areas for holding appliances and prepping food.

I think I am most comfortable in a commercial-style kitchen. Where pretty much everything is within a few inches of where I am working. When I decided to turn the center of the kitchen area into space with an island so both of us can be working at the same time, I made space in our little living room for our dining table.

This will be the first time since I was a little girl I have cooked on a gas stove, save for our camping trips in the RV. I will probably have a bit of a learning curve for using my stovetop pressure cooker and baking in the oven. But I am looking forward to getting back in the swing of cooking and baking, and of course sharing with all of you!

UPDATE, the baking is going splendidly! And while I have moved a few things around, I love having this large kitchen to work in, develop new recipes in, and simply feel at home.

Oh and what about Big Blue? With supply chain issues the parts and labor were not completed for 30 day...and unfortunately my beloved potted rhubarb plants from Montana did not survive. When we returned to pick up the truck the bed where we had carefully placed four large potted rhubarb plants looked like the aftermath of a clearance sale someone was hauling away!

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.

    1. We reached a goal, enough built up equity to be mortgage free with this last move! More room for us is a bonus, but leaving behind the chickens (with good folks!) was hard!
