June was the first full month in my home kitchen since our return from traveling through the south. And after cooking for so long in my little RV kitchen, I had a bit of a learning curve to master.
But I also got a lot accomplished including new recipes to share and a return to baking some of our bread. I had missed homemade bread while we were traveling and I especially missed homemade bread when a loaf of comparable bread goes for about $7 dollars a loaf in most major grocery stores.
The new recipes shared and/or created this month include:
Easy Saucepan Salted Pecan Squares, gosh these are so good!
Basic Everyday Meatloaf And now let's talk meatloaf!, because who doesn't like meatloaf and it is the perfect frugal meal to have ready to go in the freezer.
This Simple Carrot Salad, that can be whipped up at a moments notice.
Easier to Peel Garlic, and from the comments, it turns out I am not the only one who hates to peel garlic!
Coconut Maple Granola! Enough said, this stuff is delicious...
Pan Fried Chicken with Broccoli Brown Rice, this is more a dinner idea than a recipe. But it turned out so good it did result in a new category on the blog.
Sour Cream Beet Salad. This one is for all the beet lovers out there, and in here around our dining table.
This one is my new favorite go-to for dessert, Honey Bread Pudding.
Olive Oil Eggs and Spaghetti, perfect to get more eggs into our meals and for those times I forget to take meat out to thaw...
And lastly, Red Cabbage Slaw.
We have been concentrating on eating down our pantry, because our house has sold and we are waiting to close and move. Most of the new recipes made this month do reflect eating from our pantry. There were only two recipes I purchased ingredients specifically for the recipe, Sour Cream Beet Salad and the Red Cabbage Slaw.
It turns out after over 35 moves, I have a particular way I pack up my kitchen, it consists of three stages. The first stage is all the things I am not going to use before we leave. It only makes sense to get them packed up and out of the way.
From there the second stage is to get all the kitchen chores done that will sustain us until moving day, like grind up enough coffee, or make another batch of granola. Then get all that equipment packed away. Today is finishing up some stage two chores and another round of packing!
Leaving us with just the bare minimum of dishes, pots and pans etc. which are packed up the day before they are loaded on the trucks. Funny as each room is liberated of it's contents, the small echoes begin...
What has been happening in your kitchen? Are you a jam maker and canner and your kitchen is a non-stop food prep area? Are you the neighborhood hostess for all the kids that play with your kids and you love to offer healthy snacks? Or do you take some time off from cooking when your weather gets too hot for comfort? I would love to hear from you, because it is always a pleasure to have friends drop by for a chat!

Moving to a new house sounds like a huge amount of work! Good luck with all the chores. But maybe you’ll share photos of your new kitchen for IMK when you settle into it.
ReplyDeletebest, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Mae, you are right, a big amount of work! But I am looking forward to moving back to a small patch of land. Thanks for stopping by, have a great week ahead.
DeleteNothing more valuable at these times as a patch of land. It might be a lot of work, but it's definitely worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteWe agree, thanks!
DeleteI just inherited a patch of land and it is for sure a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but so worth it! Have a great week ahead ❤️
ReplyDeleteAmy, thank you!
Deleteoh dear I dread moving after 25 years here. I mean we won't for a few more years but the thought ... THanks for joining in IMK this month. Looks like you've had a busy time of it cooking.
ReplyDeleteSherry you are welcome, I hope to share again!
DeleteGood luck with the move! We did a lot of that in the early 2000's but for the past 18 years have been in the same house. I don't ever want to pack up again :)
ReplyDeleteThe packing gets old, but not the adventure! Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!
Delete35 times!! Oh my goodness! No wonder you have your packing routine set!
ReplyDeleteThere may actually be more, but I have lost count. Thanks for stopping by!
Delete35 moves? That is a lot of moves. Sounds like you do have a routine though.
ReplyDeleteI do, it just sort of evolved through the years. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!
DeleteLots of yummies here! I can't imagine moving 35 times, WOW! Thanks so much for linking up at the #UnlimitedLinkParty 119. Pinned.

ReplyDeleteVisiting today from #TTMT
Paula, thank you for your kind words! We will be accepting all good thoughts and prayers for a safe journey as we begin again!
DeleteGood luck with your move, I hope everything goes smoothly! Thank you for linking up with tell it to me tuesday!
ReplyDeleteLyndsey, thank you and thanks for hosting!
DeletePS: Thank you for sharing this with Sweet Tea & Friends this month sweet friend.
ReplyDeletePaula you are so welcome!
DeleteI love your three phase kitchen packing outline, and the term "eating down our pantry"! We had to do the same recently when we were leaving Canada and a month before the move I forbade myself from buying anything except fresh fruit & veg. Still ended up with SO much food leftover to give to friends. I'm impressed you've moved 35 times! I think I must have moved about 10 times in my life and that's too many already...
ReplyDeleteI love my resiliency about moving, but I do think (and hope) this is the last garden I plant for the new buyers, LOL! Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.
DeleteIt's certainly been a busy month in your kitchen! Good luck with the move and hope you love your new kitchen.
ReplyDeleteSammi, thank you so much! See you next time, "in my kitchen" for July.
DeleteGood luck with the move. I am looking forward to seeing your new kitchen and home.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to be in your kitchen briefly.
ReplyDeleteWe’ve been in our RV for 4.5 years, and I’ve adjusted, but I don’t cook like I used to. I’m so looking forward to some elbow room in our new one.
Thanks for sharing at the Homestead Blog Hop.
Laurie
