Encouraging Hearts and Home 05.21.2020

How to store cucumbers, Healthy Start to the Day Cereal Bars, Update a Plastic Flower Pot, and Easy Chocolate Cake are this week's featured posts!

Hello and Welcome!

I hope your week went smoothly, with moments of joy, accomplishments, and a sense of pride. We had a bit of a chore to complete here in Montana, the menfolk had to change out the culvert for the irrigation canal that runs the perimeter of our property, and it was quite a job! The old one (metal) had rusted and collapsed. Which caused water to back up in the canal bed to the point of overflowing over the canal bank onto the lawn, which (of course!) leads to the house!

When we purchased our home and began remodeling the double car garage into additional living space, we discovered water damage.

We quickly assumed it was from snow runoff as the house sat empty 3 years in probate proceedings. But once the irrigation canal was opened at the gate head, it all started to make sense. No one was here, to monitor the canal levels and/or clean out a clogged culvert! Once we tried to clean the collapsed culvert, we knew, it was time for a new one. We are all happy this job is done!

So much has happened since that mud-filled day, less than a week ago, spring arrived! The lilacs are now blooming, along with all the fruit trees in our mini-orchard. There are bees everywhere buzzing with excitement and the mixing of pollen! We are hoping for enough fruit this first year to can a quart or two for winter. While the house sat empty three years, the fruit trees were let go long before. But things are looking pretty good for our first springtime in our new home state. We will see how many jars of fruit go into the root cellar...
