Encouraging Hearts and Home 04.29.2021

I Spy Photo Challange 15, A cereal box made into a Fabric Covered Gift Bag, The 20 Best Gardening Books for Kids, and Cake Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits are this week's featured posts!

Hello and Welcome!

We are finally getting a few outside chores and landscaping projects completed. We have been here just about two years, and there was always a needier task/chore that took precedence, but finally, we are fine-tuning the yard, the flower beds, and walkways.

A section of the yard sloped towards the house. In the summer, not a problem. And not a problem in the fall and winter. But come spring when the snow melts we were walking in a puddle each and every time we left home. One solution was to build a short retaining wall and backfill the dirt to level out the yard.

This looks fairly small, but there are 5 yards of topsoil shoveled into place, to backfill this area. Now we will water it down, and run a weighted roller over the top, to pack it down. I will plant rhubarb plants against the bricks and the rest will be reseeded for a lawn. The space in front is our walkway, this will bet a load or two of decomposed granite, which we will tamp down for a solid walking surface, yet one that allows snowmelt and rain to drain off.

And now, it's time for this week's Encouraging Hearts & Home Blog Hop!
