As I continue to speak about the convenience of a well-stocked pantry (and it's all true, by the way!).
I feel it is also my duty to provide you with recipes to see you through, for all your basic household needs. So if your family likes pizza, you will appreciate this recipe for The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce. Made from ingredients from your own pantry, with no thickeners or corn syrup sweetener. Just tomatoes, a few herbs, and a spoonful of natural cane sugar crystals. Which you could leave out, but for our family that little touch of sweetness livens up the whole pizza. The gentle cooking reduces the ingredients to a bright and flavorful sauce.
Ingredients needed for this recipe:
Here is the reduced sauce after cooking for 30 minutes, the sauce has thickened and is ready to spread on a pizza crust.
Place the tomato sauce into a medium-sized saucepan. Add remaining ingredients, and bring to a boil.
You are now ready to make pizza!
Storage options for The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce. Leftover sauce may be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to three days. For longer storage, store covered in the freezer. Thaw in the refrigerator before using.
Do you like your sauce chunky or smooth?
Simply by switching out the tomatoes, you can make a chunky version or a smooth sauce, like most pizzerias use. Either way, this pizza sauce comes together quickly, with minimal ingredients, and makes for a delicious pizza! This is real food, simmered into a real sauce, for a really good pizza! Feel free to adjust the herbs to your own liking, but this is our favorite blend of herbs. Each sauce has a slightly different cooking method and length of time needed to reach the thickness desired. The chunky style sauce takes 30 minutes, while the smooth sauce only takes 15.
No worries however, most of the cooking needed is hands-off!
While this sauce does take a of bit of simmering, it is mostly hands off, so feel free to work on other ingredients while the sauce is simmering. Or if you have already had a busy day, pour something cold and refreshing, and sip it between stirs! The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce also makes a great dipping sauce for breadsticks or roasted spears of zucchini. AT our house in the summertime, we also enjoy baking pizza out on the grill, but no matter how or where you bake your pie, this sauce is just the ticket...I hope you give it a try.

Sounds good but I must admit I'm probably too lazy to try it. Thanks so much for linking up with me at the Unlimited Link Party 24. Pinned!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your honesty! Dee, thanks so for hosting Ultimate Link up # 24, I appreciate it!
DeleteI'll have to keep this recipe for when I make homemade pizza, usually for the grandkids. thanks
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it, we enjoy both the chunky style and the smooth style as well.
DeleteWell, Melynda to be totally honest, I do not enjoy cooking at all. Hubby does but not me.
ReplyDeleteNot a problem, you know neither did Peg Bracken, but she loved food! I love reading her books, always a new twist on things.
DeleteI love pizza and this pizza sauce is so much better than store bought ones. Homemade is always best, right? Can't wait to try this. Thanks for sharing at Fiesta Friday party!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! If I can make it, I try to...because yes, homemade is better.
DeleteThis looks very similar to what I make, although not for pizza, but pasta. It’s really simple to make our own, isn’t it? I’d probably omit the sugar, as I like a more savory and not sweet sauce.
ReplyDeleteYour recipe post was chosen as a feature this week on the Homestead Blog Hop! Sharing and pinning!
Hope you come back this week!
God bless!
