How to Make The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce! Pizza night just got better.

How to Make The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce! This pizza sauce is so easy to make, with just one can of tomatoes or sauce. Plus you choose, make a chunky sauce or a smooth one. But each is perfect for pizza night...

As I continue to speak about the convenience of a well-stocked pantry (and it's all true!).

I feel it is also my duty to provide you with recipes to see you through. If your family likes pizza, you will appreciate this recipe for The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce. From your own pantry, with no thickeners or corn syrup sweetener. Just tomatoes, a few herbs, and a spoonful of natural cane sugar crystals. Which you could leave out, but for our family that little touch of sweetness livens up the whole pizza. The gentle cooking reduces the ingredients to a bright and flavorful sauce.

Do you like your sauce chunky or smooth?

Simply by switching out the tomatoes, you can make a chunky version or a smooth sauce like most pizzerias use. Either way, this pizza sauce comes together quickly, with minimal ingredients, and makes for a delicious pizza! This is real food, simmered into a real sauce, for a really good pizza! Feel free to adjust the herbs to your own liking, but this is our favorite blend of herbs.

The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce also makes a great dipping sauce for breadsticks or roasted spears of zucchini. In the summertime, we also enjoy baking pizza out on the grill, but no matter where you bake your pie, this sauce is just the ticket...I hope you give it a try.

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • 15 oz. tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • sugar
  • dried oregano leaves
  • dried basil leaves
  • dried marjoram
  • garlic salt
  • olive oil
You will also need the following:
  • measuring spoons
  • medium saucepan
  • potato masher
  • stirring spoon
Now we are ready to begin!

1t basil leaves
1/4 t marjoram leaves
1/4 t garlic salt

Empty the canned tomatoes into a medium-sized saucepan. Mash the tomatoes with a potato masher, to break them down into a chunky mass.

Add remaining ingredients, bring to a boil.

A little simmer time is all you need for, The Best Homemade Pizza Sauce.

This is what your sauce will look like after cooking for 15 minutes, the sauce is beginning to thicken slightly.

Here is the reduced sauce after cooking for 30 minutes, the sauce has thickened and is ready to spread on a pizza crust.

  5. This looks very similar to what I make, although not for pizza, but pasta. It’s really simple to make our own, isn’t it? I’d probably omit the sugar, as I like a more savory and not sweet sauce.
