Christmas Brandy, start this in the summertime!

I know it is only August, but you might want to make a batch of this delicious Christmas Brandy because all the wonderful fruits needed are in your marketplace now!



This is why you think of Christmas in the summertime.

We have been a little busy with our move to Wyoming. You may remember our little problem with the head gasket, yep right there on the crest of the Continental Divide, Big Blue decided it was time for a new one. From there fast forward 29 days and the truck was now ready for pickup and payment! I must say, it is nice to have all of our belongings in one place, and to be able to put everything away...finally.

But as busy as we were, the fact that summertime is coming to a close made me realize I needed to share this recipe for homemade Christmas Brandy! Why now you might be asking? Because of all the lovely and delicious fruit, you will find in your marketplace. And it would be a shame to not share such an easy and delicious recipe with you. Now, in all honesty, this is not a true brandy, but it is a delicious fruity liquor that can be enjoyed at Christmas, but you must start now.



Once you stir it together, the work is done.

The first time I made Christmas Brandy was when I got this cookbook. I love the title of this book, it also represents my personal philosophy about running a home and managing your resources well. 
I also like each of the four seasons of the year, and even though it is only August, I am already looking forward to the change in the weather, some late fall traveling, and the holidays. 


Also, this is so easy! There is no slicing or pitting or processing. Simply wash the fruit, dry briefly on an absorbent towel, and toss it in the jar! The finished beverage has a lovely soft cherry flavor. It is not as sweet as a true fruit brandy. You may enjoy this warm as is tradition, but we tend to enjoy ours over ice. Once you fill your storage jar the work is done for you and all you have to do, is wait for the holidays!

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • rum
  • apricots or peaches
  • cherries
  • red grapes
You will also need the following:
  • 1 large storage jar with a lid or a stone crock 
Now we are ready to begin!



Christmas Brandy
adapted from:  Up With Wholesome, Down With Store-Bought
makes - just enough for the holidays!

1 fifth of inexpensive rum
2 peaches or 3 apricots
1 heaping cup of cherries
1 1/2 cups of red grapes

Wash and dry by laying on cotton toweling. Once the fruit is dry, remove 1 1/2 cups of grapes from the stems and set them aside. 



Place the apricots or peaches into the bottom of the jar. 



Add the cherries.



Top the cherries with the grapes. 



Then pour the rum over the fruit in the jar and seal with the lid. 



Place the jar in a cool dark spot while you wait for the holidays!

To serve, strain into a clean jar, and label for contents. Then enjoy!

Storage options for Christmas Brandy. This is an alcoholic beverage and is safe to store at room temperature until gone.

    1. Hi Judee, of course it is not REAL brandy, but it is quite nice and with no added sugar. The sweet and fruity flavor is all natural.
