More soup recipes for supper? Yes, for many reasons, one of which is that soup for supper is quite nice. It is warm, filling, and frugal. Plus it is a wonderful way to get more vegetables on the table and into your family. Add a hot bread such as biscuits or cornbread along with some fresh fruit and cookies for dinner and you are ready to sit down to dinner, conversation and the family...
There really is something for everyone in this list of seven eight soups (we added a bonus recipe at the end!) to choose from, many contain legumes to up the protein, and others beef or pork. Along with seafood or eggs i a couple of the recipes. You may up the amount of meat used if your family prefers or keep them just as they are. But one thing holds true, soup for supper is wonderful meal to share with those you love.
Curried Split Pea Soup. The touch of curry in this soup is quite nice. This soup is so flavorful, that a few crisp crackers are about all you need to round out the main course. But I often will add a creamy dessert to end dinner with a smile and a thank you!
Our suggested "go with" recipe:
Borscht! This delicious soup is full of vegetables, beef and beautiful color! But do not think you must be a fan of beets to enjoy this soup, because it is way more than a bowl of beets...perfect with thick slices of whole grain bread and butter.
Our suggested "go with" recipes:
White Bean Soup with Cilantro Broth is a meal in a bowl. It has cheese bread on top much like onion soup offers. The cilantro broth is light, delicious and brings all the elements of the soup together.
Our suggested "go with" recipe:
Dreaming of Manhattan Clam Chowder. You will love the mix of flavor in this chowder! Not to fish-y or too smoke-y from the ham or bacon used. It is just about perfect. Add some warm rolls and butter and a warm fruit dessert.
Our suggested "go with" recipes:
Green Bean Soup. This soup is a bit lighter than many of the other soups suggested for supper. But you will enjoy with a hearty hot bread on the side. And a slice of pie...
Our suggested "go with" recipes:
One Cup Two Cup Three Cup Soup. Is light, fresh and delicious, I had wanted a lighter and easy to make lentil soup, when I ran across this recipe. And it has been my favorite since then!
Our suggested "go with" recipes:
Lentil and Mushroom Soup with Kale and Bacon. I know what you are thinking, two lentil soups in a row. And that would be correct, this one has been around forever in my little black book of recipes, and surely deserves a place in line! Mushrooms, bacon and lentils are a great trio of flavor...
Our suggested "go with" recipes:
Poached Rhubarb, with a touch of sweetened sour cream.
And a little bonus, is this delicious split pea soup I have been making and enjoying for decades!
Alabama Style Split Pea Soup. This soup had been served in my kitchen for over 20 years. It is almost always served with biscuits and butter. With a scoop of ice cream to close out the meal. And that is what I will suggest for your table as well.
