Changing seasons can bring about changes in our eating habits as well. But the one thing that we should safeguard is continuing to eat fruits and vegetables! Come and take a look at this beautiful Kiwi with Sour Cream and Brown Sugar Dessert Plate!
Pick the best available at your local markets year round.
While our growing season is just beginning here, it is summer (and harvest time!) just around the globe. And while we tend to eat from our own local farmer's market most of the year, at this time those fields are not ready to harvest...Suffice to say that if it is in the produce aisle when I do our weekly marketing, we will be eating it! As much as I prefer local, I will not waste the opportunity to eat well during the time that our local foods are not yet ready.
If you look carefully, vitamin C rich foods are available throughout the year.
Kiwis are delicious, loaded with vitamin c, and much like cantaloupe or bananas may need to mellow and sweeten when first brought home. Fruit that is picked for shipping is picked earlier than is optimal for eating, to be able to travel without much damage. When I shop and purchase these fruits and others such as a fresh pineapple I don't necessarily use them that same day. Some mellowing time is often needed and I usually plan on cooking or serving them at their prime.
With fresh, beautiful and ripe fruit to work with, keep the recipe simple!
Bringing us to this easy and delicious Kiwi with Sour Cream and Brown Sugar Dessert Plate. It is so easy to prepare and is perfect for a last-minute offering to the family or even a single serving for one or two. Three simple ingredients come together deliciously for a bright taste during the cold winter months through early spring...this dessert plate is a welcome change from richer dishes usually offered, no matter the time of year.
Some additional thoughts on this recipe:
If you are serving to a large group, offer additional bowls of sour cream and brown sugar, that way everyone can personalize their own dessert.
Single servings are easy to manage when you have that perfectly ripe kiwi waiting to be enjoyed! Just slice and top with sour cream and brown sugar.
If made ahead and refrigerated, sprinkle with the brown sugar right before serving for a beautiful presentation!

DeleteI had not heard of nor thought of this combination. I will certainly take your word for it. Kiwi can have a little too much zing sometimes, and then sometimes it’s perfect! I’m guessing the brown sugar balances that out!
