Garlic Butter Green Beans with Parmesan Cheese and Pecans, a dinner idea

Cooking almost every meal we eat, is my usual kitchen style. Often requiring a bit of creative license to use what we have on hand in the pantry. When eating dinner, my husband will often turn to me and say, "are you going to blog this?” That is how a dinner idea came to be...not always a recipe, but too good, not to share.

Today we are offering Garlic Butter Green Beans with Parmesan Cheese and Pecans.

This quick and easy green bean dish is gourmet in flavor!

But no one needs to know how easy it is to cook and serve! All you need to do is toss some garlic, butter, green beans and a touch of water in a pan. Simmer until tender, then scatter on a serving plate, dress with the Parmesan cheese and top with pecans. Then proudly take to the table and serve with the flair that it deserves...

I have made these three times in the last couple of weeks.

Why? Because they are that good, one night I ate them as my dinner! Not beside my dinner, they were my entire dinner...trust me when I say, you are going to want to make Garlic Butter Green Beans with Parmesan Cheese and Pecans! And possibly on repeat when green beans season arrives.

Some additional thoughts on this recipe:

If you add too much water to the pan for cooking, no worries, you will simply boil it off.

Out of pecans? Walnuts or cashews also go great with green beans.

Yes, we used the cheese in the shaker jar with the green lid! But use your favorite.

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • butter
  • garlic
  • frozen green beans
  • Parmesan cheese
  • pecans
You will also need:
  • a medium size sauce pan with lid
  • measuring spoons
  • serving platter or plate
Now we are ready to begin!

Garlic Butter Green Beans with Parmesan Cheese and Pecans
a dinner idea, from the hip!
UPDATED: 03.26.2026

1 T butter
1 or 2 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
fresh or frozen green beans - enough for your family
Parmesan Cheese
pecans

Place the butter, garlic and 1/4 c water in the bottom of a medium sauce pan.

Cover and bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer, cook for 5 -7 minutes. When tender remove the lid and let the excess water cook off. You only want green beans, butter and garlic in the pan.

PS do not drain, you will lose the garlic butter!

Arrange the cooked green beans on a serving plate or platter.

Sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese and broken pieces of pecans. Serve.

Here on our homestead, we come together each Friday evening for either game night or movie night. We share in dinner making. I took a pan of Garlic Butter Green Beans with Parmesan Cheese and Pecans to share! And oh my, were they a hit!

Storage options for Garlic Butter Green Beans with Parmesan Cheese and Pecans. Store Garlic Butter Green Beans with Parmesan Cheese and Pecans covered in the refrigerator for up to three days. Heat gently before serving, you will notice a texture change in the pecans. I do not recommend freezing this dish for longer storage times.

  1. We are just after Passover and my husband is ready for your Maple Pecan Granola once again. These beans - legumes (beans, peas, peanuts, etc.) are not permitted to be eaten on Passover - also look tempting!
