Sweet Potato Gratin with Fresh Sage

Sweet Potato Gratin with Fresh Sage is one of those dishes that needs to be in your family's meal plan rotation! It is that good! Sweet potatoes are not only delicious but good for you too. This easy to assemble dish is one you will make again, and again! Sweet potatoes and fresh sage never tasted so good!

The flavors in this easy oven casserole are a perfect partner to just about any main course.

If you enjoy sweet potatoes but get tired of a sweet, sweet potato dish, then Sweet Potatoes Gratin with Fresh Sage is what you are looking for! And with sweet potatoes filling the market bins, now is the time make this dish! To be honest, this is so delicious, I did not want this vegetable gratin to be thought of as just a holiday recipe.

Because Sweet Potato Gratin with Fresh Sage can and should be enjoyed throughout the year, and not just at holiday time. While we all know how delicious they taste, recently it has been brought to everyone's attention just how good sweet potatoes are, nutritionally. This gratin will go perfectly with any main dish entrée, but especially so with pork or chicken! Plus it is pretty delicious all on its own as a meatless entrée...

Like most gratins, this one is simple to prepare.

You will find the simple preparation of Sweet Potato Gratin with Fresh Sage fits right in with getting a healthy meal on the table with little fuss. Plus helping layer the ingredients into the baking pan is perfect for those little cooks in the family that want to help, or you need to keep busy until mealtime! Once the sweet potatoes are cut into slices, the actual layering is perfect for your kitchen crew! This savory and mildly sweet potato dish is sure to please everyone.

Some thoughts about this recipe:

While it looks complicated, rest assured, it is not! only a bit of peeling and layering.

It is also not a sweet, sweet potato dish. You will enjoy this with any entrée you choose to serve it with.

The fresh sage is delicious, mild in comparison to dried. It is worth searching for in the marketplace if you don't have your own garden patch.

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • sweet potatoes
  • fresh sage
  • Jarlsberg Cheese or Provolone Cheese
  • Half & Half or Whole Milk
  • Garlic Salt
  • Fresh Ground Pepper
You will also need the following:
  • 9X13 baking pan
  • kitchen knife
  • vegetable peeler
  • liquid measuring cup
  • box grater
  • measuring spoons
Now you are ready to begin!

  16. We've been experimenting with switching out potatoes for sweet potatoes in various recipes and have liked the taste and the health benefits. I've never been a fan of the traditional Thanksgiving sweet potato recipes I've become a huge fan of sweet potatoes as a substitute.
