Right now in our area it seems to be grape season! And we have been taking advantage of the bonanza of fresh juicy red grapes. Red grapes are a favorite of mine and whenever possible I like to do something new with them besides washing and presenting small bunches on a tray. This Grape and Celery Salad with Pecans was born of that inspiration...
One reason I don't generally meal plan is for those times, like right now.
When there is an abundance of one specific item in the marketplace. Currently here in our markets it is red grapes. We do tend to eat seasonally if you will, by taking advantage of what is growing locally, or being sold locally in our community. When I market I choose the best of what is available and once home, and washed, I meal plan from there. We love the Grape and Banana Fruit Medley that I have shared here at Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household. But I don't always want our salads to be as sweet as that one. Truth is, we often enjoy that one as a dessert....
During this last trip to the marketplace, organic celery was also available.
So a bunch went into the cart. I knew we would enjoy it with a sandwich or stuffed with a bit of peanut butter or cheese pieces. But more and more I try to look at celery as a stand alone vegetable. As well as a major ingredient in a dish, especially a salad. And that is exactly how this Grape and Celery Salad with Pecans came to be. Basically my friends recipe development around here is always what I/we have on hand and a creative spark to get me going! And how did I do with this new salad I offered for our dinner last night? Well there are no leftovers....
Grape and Celery Salad with Pecans is easy to make!
And while I have given general measurements and instructions, by all means do add or subtract as desired. Love grapes? Yes, you can use more. Not so keen on celery, though? Why yes you can cut back on the measure. And while I always suggest you make any recipe as written the first time, you want to serve it. I know that if you are an experienced cook (and honestly aren't we all, if we have been cooking for our families for any length of time?) you already know what your family does and does not like. So adjust accordingly. Personally we love pecans, so I used the larger measure. But I will tell you this right now, this is a wonderful salad to consider serving when you want to show the family that celery is in fact delicious and doesn't always come in sticks on a veggie plate...

Storage suggestions for Grape and Celery Salad with Pecans. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to three days. There will be a small change in texture, as the celery will soften a bit but still be crunchy and the dressing will thin from the juicy grapes, but still be delicious as all leftover salads are!
