I connected with Val immediately. Primarily because I too had lived as a roadside gypsies when we were NPS volunteers! Life in an RV has it's rewards and a few challenges as well.

Over the past 40 months we have traveled 24 states, racking up 60,000 miles on our 4x; & at least 41,000 miles on our RV, alone. And now back to our regularly scheduled Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot!

What's happening at our house?

We are going on a holiday! 

Since we live close to Galveston Bay, we are in the heart (well 2 hours away by car) of cruise country. Galveston Texas is a big cruise port and we have decided to take advantage of low, last minute pricing and sail away and relax. The timing was perfect as my SIL had a week of vacay to use or lose. So three generations are set to sail out in the next few days. 

Hubby and I have replanted all the roses that were in pots into a large garden bed to create a cutting garden. They have only been in the ground for about 10 days and already we see new growth! Here in Texas we have two bloom cycles for roses and October is the second time and I am hoping for roses on the dining table once again! 

Rain is possible for a couple of the days we are away, but all the beds will get a deep watering right before we go. The sweet potatoes are doing well, and the younger purple flesh sweet potatoes will be watered and mulched to keep them as healthy as possible. The rain will be good for them as well. The older plants may start yellowing while we are away, but it will simply mean that harvest time is close. 

These beauties greet me each morning on my walk!

We have rehomed our chickens.....we had another predator attack and will beef up our chicken house and yard, and incubate the next group. We will also use a meat/egg breed just like years ago. There is a local breeder who sells eggs for many different kinds of chickens, and we will get our next batch from them. I have found I enjoy having chickens and actually miss the routine they added to my day. Cleaning up after a predator is another issue, but the truth is, we are all a part of the ecology chain. 

A neighbor is coming by to restock the cat food and water for our two outdoor rescue kitties, who are tough as nails! As is the case a fixed female does not permit a male to take over any of their territory. Both of our ladies are tough and they take no guff from the feral males that roam our country road. And that about brings everything up to date. Except, we still need to install a hot water heater LOL!

Why did my husband and I put together a tiny house homestead here in East Texas?

Turns out, it is a bit of an interesting story, you can read about it here if you like...and now that we are settled in, we have also made a photo tour of our 5thwheel tiny home. You really must be organized to fit it all in, cooking, gardening, homesteading and also a bit of fun from time to time!

And from time to time when inspiration strikes, I write about it all. The good, the bad, and all the other stuff from years ago, if you have an interest in creative thoughts down on paper...you could take a gander here. And now From the Heart Vol II can be found here. 

And...

I try each day to get out and take a moment for myself to observe and see the daily changes taking place on our property. These moments taken out wandering have helped me find small repairs needing done as well as a rose that might have just bloomed! 

I decided to photograph these findings for enjoyment yes, but also to observe the land around me along with the changes (and hopefully improvements through the years.) You can find those photos at our Welcome to our Homestead page.
