Old Fashion Egg Nog, for Christmas morning!

It would not be Christmas morning without our favorite Old Fashion Egg Nog! How do you celebrate Christmas morning? If it includes egg nog, I offer you our family's favorite recipe.

This is smooth, creamy and delicious!

As a kid the first time I tried a commercially made egg nog, my immediate reaction was "Whoa, this is so thick". And from that experience, I thought that I did not like Egg Nog. Years later at my in-law's home for Christmas, I learned just how delicious homemade egg nog can be! And I have been an egg nog fan since that first sip. Old Fashion Egg Nog is simply delicious! And we look forward to it each and every Christmas morning.

NOTE: I do accept and understand there is controversy over the consumption of raw eggs. And while I have never had any problems I do understand we all need to make personal decisions for ourselves and our families. If raw eggs are a concern for you, this might not be a good recipe for you. I know from working in food service off and on through the years, pasteurized eggs are readily available. Personally, I have never used a pasteurized egg or egg product. But if you have and think it would be a good fit as a substitute ingredient, I hope you give this recipe a try.

It wouldn't be Christmas morning without homemade Egg Nog!

Old Fashion Egg Nog is the silkiest, most delicious drink you will ever enjoy. Rich with flavor and a good dose of half and half! We generally make a couple of batches, on Christmas morning. The first batch is for breakfast and the second batch is available throughout the day for those that wish to enjoy a little spirited Egg Nog, as they let you how much they enjoy the gift you gave them!

We have a long-standing (49 years and counting!) tradition of Cinnamon toast and Old Fashion Egg Nog for Christmas morning breakfast. We do add a platter of scrambled eggs and sausage patties for those who want a more substantial breakfast, but Christmas morning would not be complete without Egg Nog and cinnamon toast! However something new for us this year is having our own hens, and using eggs from our own little homestead!

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • eggs
  • sugar
  • salt
  • vanilla
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • milk
  • half & half
You will also need the following:
  • hand mixer
  • measuring spoons
  • measuring cups
  • whisk or large kitchen spoon
  • medium-sized mixing bowl
  • pitcher
Now we are ready to begin!
