Seven Soups for Supper! Let's bring back soup night, for supper.

Soup for supper? Yes, for many reasons, one of which is that soup for supper is quite nice, warm, filling, and frugal. Plus it is a wonderful way to get more vegetables on the table and into your family. Add a hot bread such as biscuits or cornbread along with some fresh fruit and cookies for dinner and you are ready to sit down to dinner, conversation and the family...

There is something for everyone in this list of seven soups to choose from, many contain legumes to up the protein, and others beef or pork. You may up the meat if your family prefers or keep them just as they are. But one thing holds true, soup for supper is wonderful meal to share with those you love.

Ham Bone Soup with White Beans, Sweet Potatoes and Kale. This soup has it all, rich flavor from the ham bone, legumes, and veggies! Perfect with a square of cornbread and this easy Grape and Banana Fruit Medley.

Our suggested "go with" recipes:

Cream of Tomato Soup, pretty darn close to Campbells. For some only Cream of Tomato Soup and a grilled cheese sandwich will do for a soup supper! And this homemade (copycat) tomato soup is how we do tomato soup in this family

Easy and Delicious Beef and Vegetable Soup. This soup is made with ground beef, making is very frugal, we like to serve it with a spoonful of pesto to up the already delicious flavor! This hearty soup is perfect with simple whole grain bread and butter along with an easy fruit compote.

Our suggested "go with" recipes:

Broccoli and Cheddar Cheese Soup, is quite delicious, and this one is made creamy and thick with pureed beans, yep beans! No worries however because this soup is still light and quite enjoyable. Muffins call out to be served along side this soup, and for dessert Bananas in Orange Caramel Sauce.

Our suggested "go with" recipes:

Pasta Fagioli Soup is a meal in one, simply add some crusty bread along with butter. Everyone will eat hearty and feel quite happy with this soup for their supper. And for dessert? How about a lovely Fresh Fruit Platter with Lemon Creme Drizzle.

Our suggested "go with" recipe:

Creamy Potato and Celery Soup is full of vegetables, and has that comforting feel that only a potato soup can offer. I do like to serve this one with crisp crackers and either small individual cheese balls or cubes of our favorite cheese.

Terrific Turkey Soup with Lima Beans and Barley is a stick to your ribs supper soup the whole family will love. Another soup that goes well with cornbread, often I serve it with our favorite Sweet Potato Corn Bread, and Dessert Apple Slices for dessert.

  3. I'm with you- I say bring on the soup!! The cream of tomato soup sounds wonderful and Campbells was always my favorite growing up. I liked it with rice and or a big pat of butter. I made a big pot of cabbage soup a few days ago and have been eating some everyday.
