Welcome to the Book Review Linky Party, a sharing link-up for books! We are so happy that books are once again, back in fashion! And a great way to keep them front and center is to share a review of what you have read, if and how you enjoyed it and if you would recommend the book to a friend! Oh and a story or two of how you came to own the book would also be fun...
This Book Review Linky will start each Wednesday at 12AM MST
and will run Wednesday through Tuesday of the following week. It is hosted with a full link-up at Homemade On A Weeknight! After linking be sure to take a look at some of the other reviews. You just might find your next good read...plus it is fun to support other readers and bloggers. Reading, like travel is one area where you can and will spend money and yet, you are richer after doing so!
I am so happy to be a part of this weekly event!
Reading has always been something I have enjoyed. First as a child visiting the library each week (hello Little House books!), then as a parent and grandparent (Good Night Moon!) and always as a cook in my own kitchen. Cookbooks in particular have played a large part in recipe development and as a means to widen my own limited food horizons! While I might not get to Spain or Germany, through a recipe, I can cook the foods enjoyed there! Not to mention learning to knit, fix a leaking pipe, or even plant a garden, because books can be a large part of our own, journey of a lifetime.
What book am I sharing this week?
Recipes and Menus for 50. This cookbook has been a part of my life, my whole life! This is my Grandmother's cookbook. Through the years, she often cooked for her living and many times she cooked for 50 plus folks at a time. From what I am aware of, this book was always a part of kitchen at home and when needed at work.
It is the magic that lives in my kitchen and invites creativity.
If Grandmother could cook for 50 without batting an eye, I can cook everyday, for my family! She made notes of which recipes were her favorites, by putting the page number in the margin for quick retrieval. And she added recipes she thought would be perfect as a "go with" on the fly pages. Grandmother used this book a lot! And I have looked, there is not one page where the corner is turned down...
The pages of the book are beginning to feel velvet-y through time,
frequent use, and the heat of a busy kitchen. There is scotch tape, now amber with age, holding pages in place. And there is a lot of love tucked between those pages. The love of cooking, the love of producing healthy food for clients as well as family and the love of a good meal for herself. Truth is, we are not shy about food in this family! Almost all of us have worked foodservice to earn a living. Then going home to cook for family.
I have never cooked from this book, except possibly with Grandmother in her kitchen.
But it is a part of every meal I make and enjoy with my own family. You see, it sits on the book shelf in my kitchen, ready to help if I need it. Ready to inspire me if I need some of that, and always ready to remind me that, who sits around the table is far more important than what is placed upon the table. Because whether we had good times or lean times, the whole family around the table was always the goal! Thank you for taking a moment to read about my Grandmother's cookbook, I appreciate it!
