Pork and Beans Braise, a dinner idea!

Cooking almost every meal we eat, is my usual kitchen style. Often requiring a bit of creative license to use what we have on hand in the pantry. When eating dinner, my husband will often turn to me and say, "are you going to blog this?” That is how a dinner idea came to be...not always a recipe, but too good, not to share.

Today we are sharing Pork and Beans Braise, not only a fun play on words, but a delicious skillet dinner of pork chops and green beans!

Pork and Beans, is a dinner idea that might become one of your new favorites

I like to cut my own boneless pork chops for a Pork Loin when they hit the market after fall butchering. The price per pound is low, which means dinner is not only delicious it is also frugal! With no bones to fuss with, cutting chops is as easy as slicing bread. Plus you can cut them as thick or as thin as you prefer. Once cut, they are frozen in family size packages, making it easy to pull out just enough meat for dinner for the two of us.

But the best part of these easy A dinner idea! recipes is that all you need to do

for more than two, is start with the ingredients needed for your family size. Because they are usually based on technique and not on a strict set of measurements. Much like commercial cooking in your favorite restaurant or café. Plus this is a grand recipe to make when you have leftover side dishes such as mac and cheese, mashed or scalloped potatoes as well as rice or quinoa.

Or you can simply serve your Pork and Beans Braise with a side dish of

applesauce, which happens to be my husband's favorite way to enjoy pork of any kind. Let's get started shall we? Oh and did I mention that you can have dinner on the table in about 20 minutes with this recipe? Yep, about 20 minutes, making is perfect for those busy days of chores or if you prefer, outdoor fun of any kind...

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • pork chops, we prefer boneless loin chops
  • frozen green beans
  • a bit of butter
  • garlic salt
  • fresh ground pepper
You will also need the following:
  • large skillet with a lid
  • kitchen fork
Now we are ready to begin!

Pork and Beans Braise
by the seat of my pants!

1 pork chop for each person
1/2 to 1 cup frozen green beans for each person, you can eyeball it
garlic salt, we do like this homemade version.
fresh ground pepper
a tiny knob of butter

Melt the butter in the skillet, add the pork chops to the center and spread the green beans around the edge.

Season the chops with the garlic salt and pepper. Brown the chops for about 5 minutes over medium high heat.

Turn the chops, and stir the green beans a bit. Brown for another 5 minutes.

Stir the green beans, and put a lid over the skillet. Reduce the heat to medium low and braise for 8 to 10 minutes or until the pork chops are done.

Remove the lid and up the heat under the pan to reduce the pan juices to a sauce. Place the chops on serving plates, stir the green beans into the reduced sauce and serve!

Storage options for Pork and Beans Braise, For all of our a dinner idea! recipes, we only make enough for our meal. But should you have leftovers, store covered in the refrigerator for up to three days. I do not recommend freezing this recipe.
