Pork Steaks Braised in Milk, a dinner idea!

Cooking almost every meal we eat, is my usual kitchen style. Often requiring a bit of creative license to use what we have on hand in the pantry. When eating dinner, my husband will often turn to me and say, "are you going to blog this?” That is how a dinner idea came to be...not always a recipe, but too good, not to share.

Today we have Pork Steaks Braised in Milk

Years ago I worked briefly with an older lady who always cooked her port steaks in milk.

She claimed the milk made them tender and moist. Currently we are on a pork kick, what with beef prices being so high, and a nice sized pork steak is more than enough for the two of us. No worries however, this cooking method is adaptable to as many pork steak you might need for your family. Or if you want leftovers for the next day!

Here recently while grocery shopping, I thought about Mrs. Kirk once again!

It was exactly when we were standing at the meat counter, and pork steaks were on special! I knew right away how I would be cooking these steaks for our dinner. As with many of our simple but delicious ideas carrying the a dinner idea! label, this is more a method over a precise recipe. Which is perfect for both the well stocked pantry and when you come home from grocery shopping after remembering an old friend. Dinner from simple ingredients easily put together and served with love.

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • pork steak(s)
  • butter
  • favorite seasonings
  • milk
You will also need the following:
  • large skillet, with lid
  • kitchen fork
  • small whisk
  • small bowl
  • serving platter
Now we are ready to begin!

Pork Steaks Braised in Milk
adapted from: Mrs. Alma Kirk
350-degree oven

1 large pork steak
butter
garlic seasoning or seasoning of choice
1 1/4 c milk - divided
2 T whole wheat flour

Melt the butter in the skillet over medium heat. When melted add the pork steak and brown slowly on medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Season well with the garlic seasoning, and turn over.

Add 1 cup of milk (we use whole milk) cover with the lid and braise for 45 minutes at 350-degrees.

Remove the skillet from the oven, carefully remove the lid. You may cut the pork steak into serving pieces if desired. Place the pork steak on the serving platter.

In a small bowl combine 1/4 c milk and the 2 T whole wheat flour until smooth with no lumps.

Bring the broth in the pan back to a boil, add the milk slurry and continue cooking and stirring with a whisk until thickened and smooth. Pour the pan gravy over the pork steak and serve.
