My name is Penny Kocher, I am 79 years old, and I live in the UK, in a small county town called Lewes. I used to write two blogs: Frugal Fashion Shopper and My Other Blog.
My reasons for setting up this new blog is that I am approaching 80 and the key question I have is, how do we make these years the ‘best of times’ whilst also acknowledging and dealing with our ageing bodies.
So, this new blog will have posts on health issues, but I will also write about films, television, books and visits to art galleries. Occasionally thrown into the mix will be a post on style, and ones that are more serious and/or political.
Above all I hope to have conversations with everyone who reads this blog. Ageing comes to us all – let’s look at this ageing lark together!

What's happening at our house?
We are currently in a cold snap, and I cannot tell you how lazy I have been during this time. Remember those loofahs needing skinned and dried, still waiting. Or the pumpkins I grew for the hens? They are still waiting to be processed for the freezer with the seeds going to the chicken yard for the snacking pleasure of the flock. Why am I telling your of my lack of follow through?
Because it can happen to everyone, just about everywhere. Including a homestead. While there is always work to be done, there are times (not often, but it does happen) where effort is in short supply and a break is needed. I think I reached that point this week.
I felt I should UPDATE based upon some additional thinking, just to clarify. I still get out there early, I have chickens to let out of the chicken run into the yard to forage. Plus I need to water plants in the greenhouse, or make sure nothing broke in the middle of the night. But would I rather stay in where it is warm with a second cup of coffee, oh yes I would!
The garden is put away, and the cold makes me ache if outside for too long (one reason we move to Texas, to get away from the Wyoming cold winters). So I am taking care of me this week, because it turns out, the pumpkins are fine for now and the loofah can wait. I have knitting to do and a warm heater to enjoy, until this cold snap is over!

Why did my husband and I put together a tiny house homestead here in East Texas?
Our Tiny Home!
Turns out, it is a bit of an interesting story, you can read about it here if you like...and now that we are settled in, we have also made a photo tour of our 5thwheel tiny home. You really must be organized to fit it all in, cooking, gardening, homesteading and also a bit of fun from time to time!
And from time to time when inspiration strikes, I write about it all. The good, the bad, and all the other stuff from years ago, if you have an interest in creative thoughts down on paper...you could take a gander here. And From the Heart Vol II can be found here.
And...
I try each day to get out and take a moment for myself to observe and see the daily changes taking place on our property. These moments taken out wandering have helped me find small repairs needing done as well as a rose that might have just bloomed!
I decided to photograph these findings for enjoyment yes, but also to observe the land around me along with the changes (and hopefully improvements through the years.) You can find those photos at our Welcome to our Homestead page.

Oh I hear you on the cold making you feel lazy... I'm laying here this morning (where it is 11/12 degrees) trying to talk myself into getting out of bed and heading to the gym... I really don't want to though.

DeleteI totally get not wanting to head outside when it gets cold! It's been daunting this week! Winter has definitely arrived in Minnesota... we've had a foot of snow and yesterday morning the temps dipped to -7! BRRR! Thanks, as always, for cohosting one of our favorite link ups, Melynda! DeleteIt is so hard to get motivated to go outside into the garden when it's cold, but I find if I just do it, I get warmed up quickly. Thanks for the party.

DeleteI hope that cold snap is finally moving on and you can warm up, Melynda! It makes me ache too but we have cold weather a lot, which means I don't do much in the wintertime. That's not always easy for me since the rest of my family likes to get out and do things. We make do, though!
