Good Old Raisin and Peanuts Honey Cookies

Good Old Raisin and Peanuts Honey Cookies are delicious. Who else remembers GORP (good old raisins and peanuts)? The energy treats everyone took along when hiking just a few years ago? These Good Old Raisin and Peanuts Honey Cookies are just as delicious, but you don't have to be out on a hike to eat them!

Never be surprised where you might find a good recipe!

I am on the lookout for a good recipe anywhere, and I do mean anywhere. I was walking through the gift shop at the Flavel House Museum in Astoria Oregon a few years ago when I found a sweet little cookbook that had this wonderful, honey peanut butter cookie recipe inside. I knew right away that I wanted to make these cookies, and sure enough, they were just as good as I had thought they would be!

We found ourselves in Astoria often, it just happened to be right across the Columbia River from where we lived in Ocean Park Washington on the upper peninsula. A beautiful area that we were fortunate to enjoy for a few years. My favorite memory of living on the peninsula is the cranberry harvest each year. Flooding the bog with water to "comb" the berries off the top is quite a sight to see. And by virtue of that memory, I came to find cranberries to be one of my favorite ingredients to cook with.

Good Old Raisins and Peanut Honey Cookies, a delicious cookie to make ahead and savor the next day!

Honey has become my favorite natural sweetener.

And it is delicious in these cookies!
Good Old Raisin and Peanuts Honey Cookies are the perfect cookie when you need healthy snacks for the family because they are made with honey, whole wheat flour and peanut butter. Making them a pretty tasty cookie to enjoy. Because they are full of whole food ingredients they are also a good choice for outdoor activities, like hiking, skiing, or any other activity where you need a "power" snack.

With honey as one of the ingredients, this is a very tender cookie when first baked. You will want to plan ahead and bake these the day before they are served. Good Old Raisin and Peanuts Honey Cookies are the cookie to think about when planning an outing! Once baked and ready to go, you won't have to worry at the last minute about what to take for those that might get hungry along the way...

Plus they are so easy to customize!

Did I mention that they also taste great? Feel free to use your choice of peanut butter, smooth or chunky. Also if you are not a walnut fan, feel free to leave them out, or you could substitute salted peanut halves if desired. And if you are a lover of chocolate, you just might fill that measuring cup intended for walnuts with additional chocolate chips, because like any recipe I share, make it your own way, they are cookies for your family after all...

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • peanut butter
  • honey
  • butter
  • egg
  • vanilla
  • salt
  • baking soda
  • baking powder
  • whole wheat flour
  • raisins
  • flake type cereal

  • chocolate chips
You will also need the following:
  • mixer
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • silicone spatula
  • cookie scoop
  • baking sheet
  • covered container for storage
Now you are ready to begin!
