How to Make Honey Simple Syrup, and why you might want too!

Honey Simple Syrup, easy and convenient. Come and take a look at this easy process, and make a jar for your refrigerator!



I love the convenience of this Honey Syrup!

I use quite a bit of honey in my cooking and baking. And along the way I have learned a couple of very handy tricks. It turns out, that honey can be difficult to cook with, when stirring it into another liquid such as when making iced tea. Or milk and eggs when assembling a custard dessert. Which led me to create a couple of tricks in my kitchen that just might help you, in your kitchen. 

Honey has a personality as an ingredient in your recipes.

For instance, when making my favorite Honey Vanilla Custard, I gently warm the honey in the microwave (the stovetop works great also) before mixing it into the eggs and milk. Not hot, but warm enough to thin the honey. The thinner consistency of the warmed honey mixes right in with no left behind clumps or blobs of honey at the bottom of the bowl. This same trick works for homemade salad dressings as well, like this one for Chunky Raspberry Vinaigrette. 


Cold ingredients can be a challenge, and why this syrup is great to keep around!

My other honey trick is Honey Simple Syrup. Very convenient stored in the fridge we use it to sweeten ice tea, to drizzle over cut fruit or yogurt, and a tall glass of ice latte! When I make up our favorite pitcher of mostly herbal tea I use the honey syrup to get just the right amount of sweet without leaving honey in the bottom of the tea pitcher. Which can happen when trying to stir honey into a cool liquid. Using a honey syrup to sweeten drinks is great because it is easier to measure. Honey Simple Syrup is made with equal parts water and honey, so if you need 1/4 cup of honey in a recipe, simply add 1/2 cup honey syrup. 

Keep a jar in the fridge, you won't be sorry...

Stored in the refrigerator your Honey Simple Syrup will keep almost indefinitely. I usually make a enough to store it in a pint sized jar with a tight fitting lid. This is enough for four pitchers of our favorite iced tea blend. The recipe for honey syrup couldn't be more simple, it is equal parts very hot water and honey. Stirred together and stored in the refrigerator in a covered container. Stored in the refrigerator it will definitely last a long time, but trust me, it will be gone soon because it is convenient and handy to have on hand. Come and I will show you how...


Additional thoughts on this recipe:

This is so simple, two ingredients in equal measure. So make a little or make a lot!

Add a teaspoon of vanilla to the boiling water before stirring in the honey for Vanilla Honey Syrup.

This is perfect for crystalized honey!


Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • honey
  • water
You will also need the following:
  • small saucepan
  • measuring cup
  • silicone spatula
  • storage container and tight fitting lid
Now we are ready to begin!



Honey Simple Syrup
by the seat of my pants!

1 c honey
1 c water



Bring the water almost to a boil, turn off the burner and remove the saucepan to another burner. 



Add the honey and stir until dissolved into the hot water.



Let cool and transfer to a storage container, cover with the lid and store in the refrigerator. 

Storage options for Honey Simple Syrup. You may store in the refrigerator for at least 30 days. No need to freeze this for longer storage.

  1. I haven’t tried cooking with honey. I should since it is a natural sweetener. I can also see how the simple honey syrup would be easier to work with.
