How to make Homemade Counter Wipes!

My daughter has been making Homemade Counter Wipes for a few years now. And it dawned on me, why not make a jar of wipes for my own kitchen, so I did! They are so convenient to have and make clean-up a breeze. Made with three ingredients, they are food safe and leave your countertops ready for the next round of kitchen time.

Easy does it, all you need is a jar and lid.

The one thing I did not have was a storage jar with a lid, but I did find one at my local thrift store here in town. It was just the right size for the cotton dishcloths I planned on using. And they filled it up perfectly!

The other ingredients needed are white vinegar, water, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Feel free to change out the essential oil from time to time.
I usually stick with food smells, for this batch I am using grapefruit oil, but lemon or mint and rosemary will also be enjoyed in future batches.

The actual amount of cleaning liquid will be determined by how big your jar is, and how many cleaning cloths it will hold.

I am guessing that this jar would need four cups of liquid. But using more or less liquid to "fit" your jar is easy because it is simply equal parts water and white vinegar, with a drop or 2 of essential oil per cup of liquid. So you can make some up and if you need more, it is easy to make more.

For now, I used 2 cups of vinegar, 2 cups of water, and 6 drops of essential oil. The trick is to mix in a large glass or stainless steel bowl. Using glass or stainless steel prevents any plastic container from taking on the essential oil, permanently. If all you have is plastic, you may want to dedicate that piece for projects such as this one.

To fill the jar, add 1/4 of the cleaning cloths to the storage jar, stir the cleaning fluid to mix the essential oil in, and ladle 1/4 of the liquid over the cloths. Add more cleaning cloths, stir and ladle repeating until the jar is full!

Chose a spot in your kitchen, they are ready when you need them.

Cover with the lid and let the cloth/wipes evenly soak up the cleaning fluid. And you are ready to go! I decided to sit this jar right by my stove, for some reason that is often the messiest surface needing a good wipe down in my kitchen!
