Cabbage Salsa, crunchy delicious and perfect with tortilla chips!

This is not your usual tomato-based salsa, no this is crispy, delicious Cabbage Salsa and it is perfect with tortilla chips! If you thought salsas were just made with tomatoes, take a look right here at this tasty treat!

Dinner out and a bonus recipe to develop!

We had joined the family for dinner a few nights ago, and as luck would have it, we decided to enjoy dinner out instead of cooking. Once the decision was made to eat out, next we had to decide where. Quickly we all found ourselves agreeing on the same place, their favorite Mexican food restaurant. We had not been to this restaurant, but that decision led me to this wonderful recipe!

Once there we were quickly given menus and the usual basket of chips and salsa, except this, was not the usual tomato salsa, this was a delicious chopped Cabbage Salsa. Honestly, I had never had a salsa that was not tomato-based, before. But once tasted, I am sure I ate more than my fair share!

Fortunately, another bowl was delivered before we could even ask...

Now the quest was on, could I make this myself, at home?

A little investigating led to this tasty result!

I love the internet for times like this, a few words of inquiry, and I had a plethora of Cabbage Salsa recipes to look through. Because I had never made anything like this before I needed an established starting point. But nothing I read seemed quite like the restaurant salsa. But I did not let that small issue get in the way.

And I must say, that while probably not exact, this is very, very close to the restaurant salsa and we loved it just as much. The lime, garlic, and cilantro are a sure fire hit for delicious flavor. And what's not to like about cabbage, one of our favorite vegetables, in salsa form!

I will definitely be making this Cabbage Salsa again because there is always a good reason to enjoy crunchy tortilla chips with salsa. Such as Mondays or being hungry before dinner, or Thursdays, and of course the usual, Taco Tuesday!

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • cabbage
  • tomato
  • cilantro
  • garlic salt
  • white onion
  • lime
  • jalapeno pepper
You will also need:
  • chef's knife
  • paring knife
  • cutting board
  • measuring spoons
  • serving tray
  • storage jar
Now we are ready to begin!

  7. Cabbage is such a brilliant vegetable isn't it? I love the sound of your salsa, all that freshness, and so tasty with the cilantro, lime and chilli. I'll store this away for making at some stage. Thanks for the inspiration.
