Cottage Apple Salad is simple to make, and delicious to eat. The perfect salad for those busy days. This is one to keep in your memory for a quick salad to offer and kids love it! Cottage Apple Salad, yep, you will want to make this...
Simple ingredients shine, when brought together for this salad.
This salad of apples, cottage cheese, and a dusting of cinnamon borders on too simple to be an actual recipe. But on the other hand, it is too tasty to leave it a secret and not share it with you. The creamy cottage cheese gently coats the crisp sweet apple pieces. Cinnamon is the perfect spice, it is zesty without being too strong or overpowering the salad. And don't we all need more ideas like this one for busy days, and let's be honest, life will always give us busy days...
To serve, place in a serving dish, dust the top with additional cinnamon and a few broken pecans or walnuts, if desired.
Easy, unique and now a family favorite!
If someone had told me that a scoop of cottage cheese, a diced apple, and a dusting of cinnamon would taste this good I would have called them out on the accuracy of their taste buds! But here I am sharing it with you, because, yes it is that good. But before I forget, be sure sure to scatter a few walnut pieces over the top for a delicious addition of crunch and nutrition.
Cottage Apple Salad is one of the recipes (if you can actually call this a recipe, it is almost too simple to be call one.) that came about while volunteering in remote places and having only a very small grocery store available for shopping on our days off from volunteer duty. But without apologies, I have to say, it really is enjoyable and quite good!
Use your favorite type of apples, red or green, peeled or not.
When we make this at home we have used both walnuts and pecans. For this presentation we used a red apple, but any apple of your own preference (or in your fruit bowl) is the one to use. Cottage Apple Salad is perfect to serve as lunch for one, or as a side salad for two. All you will need to do is double or triple the ingredients when you are fortunate enough to have more folks gathered around your table!
