Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce

It is dessert season all the time, but it is going to be berry season very soon! Our delicious Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce is the perfect (and oh so easy to make!) solution for a quick, delicious dessert for family and friends. Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce, think liquid cheesecake poured over berries, or cake, or whatever you want!

Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce has only four ingredients, a quick grab-and-go recipe. So easy in fact this is another great recipe to make with your little kitchen helpers! Even measuring the ingredients is easy.  Once made just pop it into the fridge, until you are ready to serve dessert. I like to transfer the sauce from the mixing bowl into a serving bowl at dessert time, for a delicious-looking presentation.

I have enjoyed this over berries or poached rhubarb so many times and loved it each and every time. But for dessert last night I served it over a square of cake, and I have to tell you Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce has all it over frosting for cake! Especially carrot cake...Don't get me wrong, I love a creamy, rich frosting on my carrot of cake! But sometimes I like the cake so much that frosting can be a bit of overkill, not with Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce!

And to prove my theory, I have the perfect One Bowl Carrot Cake recipe to share with you, because Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce and carrot cake are a match made in heaven, right after berries and Buttermilk Creme Sauce...or even gingerbread!

Some thoughts on this recipe:

It goes with just about everything!

Perfect over fruit, cake, or even as a fruit dip.

Plus with only 4 ingredients, it is the perfect last-minute recipe to keep handy!

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • cream cheese
  • buttermilk
  • sugar
  • vanilla
You will also need:
  • mixing bowl
  • handheld mixer
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • silicone spatula
  • serving dish
Now we are ready to begin!

Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce
by the seat of my pants!

4 oz cream cheese
2 t vanilla
1/4 - 1/3 c sugar - you may want the full measure of sugar when serving with fresh unsweetened fruit.
1/2 c fresh buttermilk

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, vanilla, and sugar, mixing until fluffy.

Mix in the buttermilk one or two tablespoons at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scraping sides of the bowl to the center, if needed.

Continue to mix, until smooth.

Cover and refrigerate until serving time. If desired, transfer Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce to a serving dish, then...

NOTE: due to differences in cream cheese brands, separation may occur when stored for several hours in the refrigerator, should this happen, gently stir with a whisk until smooth.

Storage options for Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce. Covered this sauce will keep very well for three to five days, but honestly, it won't last that long. Do not freeze Buttermilk Creme Dessert Sauce, there will be separation upon thawing. NOTE: see above for tips if made ahead and stored before serving.
