House Brand Catsup, because making catsup is easy!

Got Catsup? Catsup goes with just about everything and is frequently a called-for ingredient in many recipes. Ever thought about making your own? House Brand Catsup is easy to make, calling for basic pantry ingredients, and no more running to the market for a bottle of catsup ever again!

Catsup is a condiment, but it is also a called for ingredient in recipes.

Catsup is pretty much used year-round, but it seems to be in high demand in the summertime. Perfect over a grilled sausage, burger patty, or on a hot dog. Not to mention that pile of golden French fries. But catsup is not just a table sauce, it is also a flavoring condiment called for in many recipes. Such as this Melt in Your Mouth Meat Loaf or Vintage Oven BBQ Pork Chops. And don't forget the beans! Homemade (No)Pork and Beans are perfect for any cookout! And those recipes are why we make House Brand Catsup.

Homemade catsup is easy!

Whether you cook with catsup or just squirt some on a hot dog, you will want to make your own. Why you ask? Well let's take a look:

  • It can be made with your preferred ingredients.
  • It is convenient, all ingredients can be found in a well-stocked pantry.
  • And you can adjust the final flavor profile for your family.
  • House Brand Catsup just might be your favorite catsup too!

How many catsup users are in your family?

We have two distinct catsup user styles in our blended family. My husband and Son in Law are table sauce users and the women in the family namely myself and my daughter are the flavoring condiment users for cooking. Fortunately, House Brand Catsup suits us both and I no longer have to worry if I am using up the last of the bottle before grocery day...

This recipe for House Brand Catsup stirs together quickly and you will love the convenience of on-demand catsup! Plus it requires no cooking, but you will need a storage container. To be honest a leftover catsup bottle from the past, is a great storage container for your own homemade version, especially for little to be able to serve their own portions. We tend to use a jar with a tight fitting storage cap.

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • tomato paste
  • white vinegar
  • apple cider vinegar
  • sugar
  • brown sugar
  • honey
  • salt
  • onion powder
  • cayenne pepper
  • cloves
  • allspice
  • dry mustard
You will also need:
  • medium-size mixing bowl
  • can opener
  • whisk
  • silicone spatula
  • measuring cup
  • measuring spoons
  • storage jar with lid
Now we are ready to begin!

    1. Yes there are three small amount of sweetener in this recipe. However much less than commercially prepared catsup. According to Insider.com https://www.insider.com/sugar-in-condiments-nutrition-facts-2019-8, a 20 ounce bottle of Heinz catsup has 2/3 c of sugar. While this homemade version contains only 1/4 c total "sugars". But honestly catsup would only be tomato sauce without a bit of sweet flavor. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.

  15. You know, I never thought of making homemade ketchup. It makes sense and when Made in large quantities and canned will save a lot of money. And no unnecessary additives.

    1. Hi Paula, while this catsup is perfect for making fresh, I do not think I would can it. I tend to think of a recipe like this one as a pantry recipe over preserving and canning. I like it because it is so simple and makes up in a jiffy! Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.
