Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Granola

Brown Sugar Cinnamon Granola, not only tastes delicious, but it will remind you of Pop-Tarts! Yes, another easy to make granola that your family will enjoy. And when granola is this easy to make, why buy it?

The one treat I remember from my childhood was Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts.

I loved them! They were not a regular visitor at our table, but when they came home from the grocery store, I wanted mine toasted and buttered. In the beginning, Pop-Tarts did not come with frosting (which was too sweet for me, anyway), but buttered, straight out of the toaster? As a kid, nothing was better, or so I thought...but they were a sometimes treat. But when they did come home from the grocery store, they did not last long! With 5 kids in our family, that little box was good as gone, as soon as it was opened!

I never forgot that taste combination of brown sugar and cinnamon together.

I have never forgotten that combination of maple, brown sugar, and cinnamon surrounded by the toasty crust. Even though I have not purchased (or even eaten!) a Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tart in over 50 years. The memory remains. But, if I do say so myself, this Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Granola comes very close in flavor, and who doesn't enjoy reminiscing about their childhood favorites?

From Wikipedia:

"Originally not frosted when first introduced in 1964, it was later determined that frosting could withstand the toaster, and the first frosted Pop-Tarts were officially released in 1967. "

The four original flavors were strawberry, blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, and apple currant.

I remember the day a box of Apple Currant Pop-Tarts came home from the market, they seemed to last a long time...

It turns out, this is the only granola recipe I offer with refined sugar.

And even thought it is best not to eat sugary cereals on a regular basis, sometimes you need a little treat to start your day! Brown Sugar Cinnamon Granola is easy to make and makes a new flavor to add to your regular granola rotation. While the recipes does contain a small amount of refined sugar, this recipe is sweetened primarily with real maple syrup so you can still offer your family a healthy breakfast. So grab the milk, and dig in, this delicious granola will take you back to your childhood!

  3. I remember pot tarts- we did eat them for breakfast but now I realize they were nothing more than a sweet dessert probably full of chemicals. Anyway, your granola looks good and healthier and love cinnamon and brown sugar.

    1. I am old enough (YIKES!) I remember them coming out in 1964. They were not served often in our house, too many kids. But I always remembered the flavor combo of brown sugar and cinnamon. This granola is a fune change from my stock flavors I keep on hand.

    1. Carol this was a fun flavor of granola to develop, and fortunately it contains a lot LESS sugar than those Pop-tarts! But they were sure a fun food for this 10 year old, back in the day!
