We really need to make this more often, because it is that good!
Bananas in Orange Caramel Sauce, what a delicious way to end your meal while enjoying the virtues of eating fruit (or mostly fruit) for dessert. I have been making this on and off for over 35 years and it is always refreshing. Actually each time I make it, I usually think, why don't I make this more often? As written, this is one of those recipes for just the two of you, but if there are more folks at your table it is really easy to double and even triple the recipe! And this is one dessert that won't leave you looking for something more, when you leave the table.

Honestly, it is almost not a recipe at all! So easy to make...
This recipe is so easy to make, there is not a lot of need to explain it! Simply juice an orange, diagonal slice a couple of bananas, quickly cook up the caramel sauce and that is it. And you are ready to serve Bananas in Orange Caramel Sauce, but don't forget the sour cream! My only real kitchen tip? Don't actually cook the banana slices. You simply fold them into the hot orange caramel sauce, count to about 15, to warm but not cook the bananas. Then serve! I hope you enjoy this sinfully delicious way to have fruit for dessert because we sure do!
Some additional thoughts on this recipe:
The slight tang of the sour cream goes deliciously with the rich orange caramel sauce.
You will find additional suggestions for other unsweetened dairy choices in the listed ingredients.
Do remember to simply warm the banana slices to keep the fruit from getting too soft.
As written this recipe serves 2, simply double or triple to serve more folks.

- bananas
- fresh orange
- butter
- brown sugar
- cinnamon
- sour cream

- cutting board
- kitchen knife
- sauté pan
- citrus juicer
- silicone spatula for stirring
- serving dishes

Bananas in Orange Caramel Sauce

1/2 of a fresh orange
2 green-tipped bananas
1 T butter
2 T brown sugar
dash of cinnamon
sour cream
OR
vanilla yogurt
OR
mascarpone cheese
Wash and dry the orange. Cut in half and juice the orange, pour the juice into a flat sauté pan along with the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until the orange juice has reduced and the mixture forms a syrupy thickness.

You do want a green-tipped banana for this recipe. |

Diagonal slices are easier to work with and look lovely on the plate. |
Peel the bananas and slice thickly on the diagonal.

Fold bananas into the sauce, however, do not cook. |
Fold the banana slices into the orange caramel sauce and heat gently - but do not cook- you want firm banana slices.

Place a spoonful of sour cream, on to a serving plate, sprinkle with cinnamon. Spoon banana slices and some of the sauce around the sour cream. Serve immediately.
Storage options for Bananas in Orange Caramel Sauce. I cannot imagine having leftovers, but should you, feel free to store them covered in the refrigerator for up to three days. Do expect some changes in color and texture. Do not freeze this recipe!
