Simple Baked Cabbage

Simple Baked Cabbage, if you are a cabbage fan, you will love this baked cabbage dish. Cabbage has become one of my favorite vegetables! It stores well and can be used in a huge array of various cooked and raw preparations. 

Classic coleslaw was never my favorite in previous times. With the traditional mayonnaise-based dressing. And then one day my daughter made coleslaw with a light oil and vinegar dressing and the addition of dried blueberries and chopped almonds...I was hooked on coleslaw from that day. 

But cooked cabbage, now that was always been a cabbage of another kind. I have enjoyed eating cooked cabbage in so many ways and so many times through the years! This recipe for Simple Baked Cabbage is the perfect way to get more vegetables into the family meals and can be made with standard cabbage and the textured Savoy style. 

This Simple Baked Cabbage is not only delicious, but the preparation is so easy, a few good ingredients, a covered roasting pan, and an oven. That's it. If your favorite shallow baking dish does not have a lid, just wrap it tightly with aluminum foil and carry on!

Ingredients needed for this recipe:
  • cabbage
  • olive oil
  • salt 
  • pepper
  • Parmesan cheese, if desired
  • Smoked Paprika, if desired
You will also need the following:
  • large kitchen knife
  • cutting board
  • shallow baking dish with lid
Now we are ready to begin!

How to make, Simple Baked Cabbage.

375-degree oven

1 large cabbage - use what will fill your casserole dish and store the rest for another use.
olive oil
salt and pepper

Cut the cabbage into wedges, layer in a large baking dish.

Simple Baked Cabbage, let's eat more vegetables!

Season with salt and pepper (use a heavy hand, you won't be sorry), drizzle with olive oil. 

Cover and bake for 1 hour. For standard green cabbage, you will need to bake 1 1/2-2 hours for that soft and silky, creamy texture.

Simple Baked Cabbage, easy and delicious!

Although not traditional, a  generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese is delicious. Brown under the broiler for a few minutes to sear to a golden brown.

Dust with smoked paprika if desired, and serve.
